You can also ski/wakeboard/tube a lot easier than lake michigan.
it depends on what kind of boat you get and how hard you run but if you keep it in the morris pool its like a half tank to go lock to lock in my boat running hard, I think its like 40 miles lock to lock maybe more but morris is the largest pool on the river, I like it alot it gets crazy on the weekend and there are some good party spots, my dad keeps one of his boats at spring brook marina in the water its 1500 a year, or 600 for a ramp pass and I think that includes leaveing it parked down there but you have to put it in your self you just dont have to tow it far, there are a few bars and resturants in this area on the river one has a beach you park on, if you have a long weekend you can always lock up or down the river head to peoria or towards chicago

the boat is hitting the water today, I just installed some new trim tabs and a new prop that is supposed to have some stern lift while also giving max bow lift with a slight bit more cup hopping to add a mph or two to my top end

I have no idea how to work on a waverunner, but id just start taking shit apart. Put it back together the same way it came off. Maybe look up a step by step how to type of deal somewhere and read through it. I cant see it being that terribly difficult.

Jared, that seems like a lot of money for a 10 year old Baja. For that coin, you can get a nice used Cobalt or comparable with a big merc motor, captains call, etc.

We were out on my broke ass pontoon boat yesterday. It would barely go faster than idle speed but the radio worked and we had a cooler full of booze. Proof positive that being on a boat, no matter what kind it is, is acting like a boss.

If this is going to be anything like owning a car, i'll want a bigger better one in two years. Not exactly a great market to sell a performance boat, so i figure buy what I want now and I'll be happy with it longer. Definitely not interested in a cruiser, and id like a cuddy to make the season last a bit longer than being stuck out in the wind on an open bow.

Im indifferent on the twins vs single motors. They both have pros and cons, but the larger boat will definitely let me be out in some rougher water.

Have not committed to buying anything yet, but i did go apply for a loan so I'll know where I stand with financing.

Are you looking to go fast or just get out on the water? If you are looking to go fast, I'd look at a cat. Single motor boats can only go so fast before they chime walk. A twin engine boat ultimate has more potential but is heavier and you pay double for maintenance.

I want to go fast, but have no need to other than "its fun". It's going to be just like a performance car, drive it around normal 80% of the time and beat on it 20%. I really like a sport cruiser type of boat, just haven't seen many out there in my budget with decent hours and not a 1991.

Must haves:
-minimum of 25' length, under 10,000lbs boat+trailer
-cabin with reasonable sleeping accommodations for 2 people, plus seating
-seating on deck for at least 5
-accessible bow

wants:
-2 engines
-speeeeed, over 60
