Taking it out in the IL river tomorrow. Is going through the locks down there any different than downtown? Do I need to call in on the VHF or just drive right in?

Translation...Panda needs to learn more about boats.

No trying to discount Jared's boat, but mid 60's mph ain't the big leagues.

So... what kind of boat is it then? What engine, what type of drive, if an outdrive, what outdrive model, was that speed on GPS or speedo?

Thank you, that was my point as to why Panda's comment was dumb.

It's a Cobalt 226 with a Mercury 454 MAG with a Bravo 3 drive with polished props by DAH. I have a Garmin GPS, so that speed I posted was GPS. The speedo and GPS are very close from what I've seen.

no I just wanted to add some shit talking to this thread, because you talk so highly of this cobalt. I have been around boats my whole life, I am not a idiot. I figured it was a smaller boat, with a big motor.

Last time I was sitting outside a lock for 20 min. It didn't open on either side. Finally called the lock on the radio, the lockmaster was sleeping.

Just got home from the river. Decided to just stay in the Morris pool. I didn't want to get stuck in a lock for two hours waiting on a barge to break its load down. Ran lock to lock wide open which was fun. easily put 50+ miles in

Just be careful if you come across a barge. Pass them slow and with respect. If you piss off a barge captain he will radio ahead to others and they will block you from passing.

I've yet to come across any good waterfront food around here. Down in Florida, by my grandparents house, good lord. Amazing food and nice docks for you to moor at.

It's the sticks, everything is a dive. Eat whatever is least likely to give you food poisoning and only drink beer out of a bottle or can.

No need to shit talk and nice edit by the way. Still backpedaling I see. I know of plenty of bowriders that can hit 50+ and quite a few will hit 60+ with a Mercury 454/496/502.

Oh and I never said anything about my boat, just the speed so quit trolling.

over 60 on a hull thats not meant for top speed with a drive thats made to push a house boat is straight up flying, that thing has got to weigh a ton for them to even consider putting a b3 on there, i don't doubt it tho my dads 19 chaparral runs almost 60 with a 350efi and an alpha but he can't hang in the rough stuff

I'm trying to avoid it, I really want to mod this thing though. Too much of a gear head to leave it alone. Hydraulic steering, k planes, 496 HO cam and PCM, labbed prop. I might be dreaming but another 5mph out of that? Anything else is too expensive to put on a boat. Id build another motor at that point.

Based on the rpms that he is pulling at WOT, couldn't he re-pitch the prop too?
