Was out on the lake today it was a bit rough heading back to the harbor but no fucks given. Met Jared in the Playpen. Here are a few pics from my cell phone.

Used my bro island for the first time... (its pretty huge)

Anchored up near Jared.

Perfect day. Minus the rough water and wind.

Playpen early in the day

Jared and Erics boats.

Took a few shots with my DSLR and my 70-300. I probably should have looked at what weird settings I had the camera set at before I took the pictures.

Looking in the background of the those pics, I didn't know people took such small boats on lake Michigan. Mine's 19.5' and I would never think about taking it on the big lake.

there was actually a large pontoon out there yesterday. it was pretty rough driving north, not a chance I'd be out in something like that. most of the smaller boats people launch for the day. it's pretty rare to see anything under 28' in the harbors. the average boat out there is somewhere around 35'

Yeah its usually the guys who trailer the boats in for the day. Alot of times (mostly during the week) the lake is like glass and smaller boats are perfectly fine. Days like yesterday when 2-4ft+ waves and gusty winds not sure I would want to be out on a 18ft boat with 6-8 people on it. Its not like on the chain, lake conditions can change FAST.

I don't really mind the guys with smaller boats out on the lake, they are having fun just like everyone else. Its the morons on Kayaks on Lake Michigan that piss me off. Cant see those guys AT all, especially if the lake is rough. Also the fucks who are tubing inside the breaker walls on a weekend when are hundreds of boats around.

i like the predicatbility of the waves on michigan... not so much the clusterfuck that the chain can become.

I would need at least 23 ft of boat to feel safe. I would consider taking my boat on the lake near Racine or South Haven but no where near Chicago.

i have been on the big pond in wakeboard boats in 3-5 days. hilariously awesome and so sketchy. wakeboard boats aren't meant to be in the air. ever.

what was cool though is we got to pull wakeboarders right next to navy pier with news helicopters chasing us and coast guard boats having the area locked down.

You'd be ok on Michigan Dan, just be very cautious of changing conditions.

Its cool that you can see a forecast for the conditions.

National Weather Service Marine Forecast

But honestly when they forecast 2-4 footers the waves seem alot bigger. Also away from the Chicago area is a lot nicer due to less traffic, the boats around chicago DO make a impact on conditions like they do on the chain.

what i am saying tho is the sea walls on the chain make it a clusterfuck cuz they bounce and never chill out and come from everywhere- not predictable... big lake you can typically see them coming.

i used to take yachts up the river and across from chicago to michigan city i took a cruisers 440 express across in 4-6's it was pretty fun but i would not want to be in a much smaller boat than that, i ran wide open the whole way it didn't get any air but I'm sure it was close after 17 hours on the illinois river i was just ready for my day to be done

We got very, very briefly caught in some 4-5 footers in my Grandpas '29 Proline fishing boat in the Gulf one time. It was a blast, but scary as fuck.

basically as you come through the wake after you progressively edge through it.... you stand tall like you are standing out of a chair at the top of the wake.
