that is the ultimate chain boat.

will clear the bridges. doesn't draft too much

12' wide boat may be a little fun going through the 12 bridge though.

So. I returned home today, from an awesome voyage. My best friend bought a boat in Sturgeon Bay, WI about a month ago. The dealer finally got it in the water and we had to bring it back this weekend. 240 miles on Lake Michigan. We had committed to this weekend rain, shine or anything short of 10'ers pounding the boat. Saturday morning his parents, gf, him and myself drove up to sturgeon bay at 3am to arrive at 8ish. We got a quick walk through of the boat and all the systems, took it out on a sea trial for roughly an hour and loaded up all of our gear. After fueling up the three of us casted off at 10am.

The first leg of the trip, Sturgeon Bay to Milwaukee, was the longest. This had to be the best conditions I've ever seen on the lake. Nearly the entire way the water was absolute glass. Barring a boat wake, there wasn't so much as a white cap or swell over 1' tall. Amazing luck. Cruising speed of 24-28mph, approx 6 miles off shore it took 7 hours to make it to McKinley Harbor in Milwaukee where we had a transient slip for the night. Topped up the boat on fuel, docked and took a walk into town for dinner, drinks and the blackhawks game. We ended up taking a walk around most of the downtown, their river walk and the lakeshore.

We woke up at 7 ish this morning and started prepping the boat to go out again. A quick breakfast and coffee, we hit the water at 830 and powered back to Chicago. Again, awesome awesome lake conditions. Clear, sunny, nothing over 1'. I also couldn't believe how many fishing boats we saw between milwaukee and the IL border. Easily 300+ . It took a bit of zig-zagging our course to avoid them all. At 11:30 we pulled into Burnham Harbor, Chicago. Not a fuss from the boat the whole way. approx 400 gallons of fuel still way cheaper than having it trailered. None of us had ever done a boat trip like that either. It was well worth it.

The boat. 95' Sea Ray 370 Sundancer. This thing is fucking MINT. 127hrs on it.... twin 454 inboards, massive 12' something beam 39' LOA, and then he had a 48" deep swim platform put on the back as well. its a big bitch. The bench seat against the transom was never even installed, still wrapped in its original plastic packaging and freight slip taped to it One owner boat, stored and maintained by the dealer he purchased it from, and then sold to my buddy. I don't know how the hell he managed to get this thing, and an awesome deal on it too. I've got a major itch to get something now.

I took a ton of pics, these are just a few. Some from my phone some camera.

right after docking it in burnham

massive beam on this thing, my buddy and his GF

coming into chicago. i don't know why this is staying sideways. I rotated it in photo bucket

These are from my instagram.

Somewhere between Sturgeon Bay and Milwaukee. This is how the conditions were nearly the whole way.

Downtown Milwaukee river walk. Kicking myself for not bringing my camera with me. Still managed a nice shot with the phone.

Sounds like a great trip. The boat looks sweet and does not look 19 years old. If I could find a deal like that I might get back into boating. Thanks for the story..

i'm falling in love with ripper-toon more and more each time i get out on it... 3-4 foot chop down the river at 45 mph and the boat doesn't move at all

i've also figured out it's sweet spots trim wise and can throw it into a banked turn

i got burnt as shit sunday. well worth it though.

I have to see this. the thought of a toon banking in a turn is pretty lulzy. I've got a chub for the boat too. Def going to need my own now.
