not to mention... some place like waukegan or north point, you could just keep it in the harbor and never see outside the breakwater like so many of those boats don't.

I've seen a few houseboats over the years. Diversey had one two years ago. It was like a 40ish Gibson 80's. Not really sure why they are not more popular. Hell of a cheap downtown condo.

THE FUN NEVER STOPS! wind was decent to take the boat out single handed so I ventured over to the gas dock to fill up. The gas cap key is on the key ring with ignition keys. I lean over the edge of the boat to open the fuel fill and the ball bearing chain just snaps. All the keys fall to the bottom of the fucking lake. I have ONE key for the boat. ONE.

Managed to Hotwire the boat and get her back to my dock. Ran out to west marine and bought a new one. Now I have TWO keys.

Good news is that I'm running out of things to break on the boat.

And as the old adage goes: no good deed goes unpunished.

Broke the blower switch and breaker getting the panel off to replace the ignition

After the key debacle yesterday I got a little bit of work done. Sanded the resin drips off the side of the boat and filled a few low spots with some fairing compound. Pulled the basin fitting out of the bathroom sink (it was leaking) and put some fresh plumbers putty in. Took a nap for an hour or so and fished for a bit. No luck though.

I have the gas/water/waste key on a separate key floating key ring so the ignition keys shouldnt go near the water. Reminds me of the time I dropped the key to the shorepower cabinet in the water. (Never locking that again) and I had to order a new one from Perko. 50ft shorepower cable couldn't leave the boat for a week.

I think the fishing is better in the fall when the fish come into the harbor to fuck. Otherwise I see people fishing all the time by the harbor entrance.

Yesterday I did boat things.

Had all my crew bail on me the night before one of my buddies came down from MKE, a coworker and his gf came out last minute and @PANDA met us out there on his braaap. Parents, sister and her bf came out around 7. We went out for the navy pier fireworks.

As usual, never a day goes by without boat trouble.

I got to the boat around 9am to do some work. Had to replace the horn and fix bullshit electric hacks from the previous owners. Wires for the horn were three pieces daisy chained together, just the ends twisted together and a single piece of electrical tape folded over the connection. That took a good two hours to fish new wire through. Just a horse shit spot with no easy access. Reaching blindly shoulder deep with my arm through an 8"x8" access panel into a bundle of 50+ wires and trying to snag the right one.

Crew is all on the boat and we're about to roll out. Fire up the boat to get some heat in the motor. Runs for two minutes, just dies out of nowhere....

Start it again, dies after 30 sec.

Again.

Again.

FUCK.

It seemed electrical because the motor just cut dead, not sputtered out running poor. I had just replaced the ignition switch last weekend so I figured a terminal worked its way loose or I fucked something up taking it apart/putting it together. Pull the steering wheel, pull the dash, start the boat. Wires tight on the switch. Jiggled the wire bundle for all the dash connections, gauge needles randomly dive to zero a couple times, boat dies. BINGO. Chased it down to a bad breaker for the blower. Its the first connection in the daisy chain for power on all the dash stuff. Jumped that SOB out and she was fine.

Now random issue #2. Boat won't get on plane, it's revved up to full rpm and just plowing. No misfiring that I can tell. Cruise about a mile and it just gets its power back. Same thing heading back into the harbor both times later in the day. Going to check my plugs and wires, both are fresh. Toss a new fuel filter on and take a look at shift linkage. The thing is either starving for fuel, down a cylinder or the drive is slipping if that's possible.

Yes and no

Still not confident with the boat being major problem free.

Full rpm but not going on plane? Did you change to a different size prop? Fuel or ignition id suspect to see a lot less than full rpm, I had a bad fuel line and it would cut out at 3000 rpm, also a miss and it was similar

Same prop but it was repaired. The boat wouldn't get on plane at 4000rpm for maybe a mile or so, then all the power came back at the same rpm and it was fine. Happened multiple times. It's like it's down on power or something is slipping

How does it idle? At WOT is it in the rpm range it's suppose to be? (4200-4600)? Bravo 1? Maybe the hub is slipping or they jacked up the repair on your prop. Compression test maybe

You could check the anti syphon valve off the tank but normally it will cut out hard if that's the issue, it's a spring check valve so if your fuel line gets cut it doesn't dump the whole tank to the bilge, the spring gets cocked up and won't allow enough fuel flow to run hard, mine actually pulled the inner layer off the fuel line and it would collapse at wot, possibly just a short somewhere but odd that it would turn full normal rpm, I believe if the drive was slipping it would be loud gear to gear slippage but I'm not positive on the bravo 2, I know the alpha will slip loud I've had mine not fully engage into gear before when my shift cable was out of adjustment

Had some time to think about this more and how it behaved with what I was doing in the boat at the time. I think the secondaries on the carb are opening too late and not letting it make any pah'.

Here's my thoughts:

Boat gets out of the hole fine but never quite got to the point of getting on plane. Rpms get within a few hundo of what WOT on plane is but doesn't seem to make pah. Coming out of the harbor you are climbing waves and boat wakes. After getting to some smoother water the boat is able to speed up a little more and get some rpm built to the point the secondaries open. She starts making pah, boat gets on plane at that point and stays on plane at a lower rpm once she's moving.
