Default Discounts on service?

Andy - I wanted to check in and see if there was a way to obtain a discount of any type on service.

Called the other day and spoke to Jim for a front/rear brake job on my wife's Volt we bought from stasek in 2012. With alignment, it came out to about $1,200, give or take (alignment only being $115)

Just thought I'd give it a shot and ask so we can save a few bucks.

-Chris

1200.00? Bring it down here and my local guy charges 80 per axle if you bring the pads/rotors that you want.

^^^ I agree.

I would do the work but my wife doesn't want me to mess anything up because it's her car. That and the fact I'm not patient and there are a couple of extra steps with the volts brake system.

Keep ya guys posted.

What extra steps do you speak of? I don't show anything different on the rear brake replacement vs a normal car.

I'm shocked it needs rear brakes already. My volt barley uses the actual brakes. Lots of volts have gone well into the 100s before brake service is needed.

Edit: same for the fronts.

I took my old man's C6 Vette into Stasek once for service, and their prices were absolutely insane. Needed a new auto shifter, new driver side visor, and a few other small things.

I drove up the street to Grossinger (on Lake Cook & Rand) and they offered the identical service for about 2/3 the price of Stasek. That was many years ago and he's continually had good luck at Grossinger. Stasek service seems like a bunch of strokes!

The HPA system needs to be depleted and there is a sequence for bleeding the brakes in a specific order as well. In addition, the volt has brake pressure sensors that need to be calibrated when performing a brake job per chevy.

Her car has less than 30K miles on it, but, from a higher speed of 40 MPH+ the car takes quite a bit of effort to stop. In addition, the dealer said the pads were worn down a lot in the front, not as much as the rear.

The OEM brakes/pads for all four wheels are roughly $450 in parts alone.

Haha they be lying to you for sure. I'm sitting at my desk looking at the GM system for a brake job on a volt. None of which state it needs recalibration for a simple pad and rotor change.

If they are doing calipers that may be a different story

I will say it sounds like more is going on than just simple pads and rotors needed. At 30k miles esp on our cars it should not need a service. If you are talking about brake pedal travel and effort needed to stop they may be trying to correct that as well in their 1200 dollar estimate.
