caliper painting

so im redoing my brakes and my triple black cobra needs some red calipers to go with my new red brake pads. what kinda paint is needed, what kinda prep and what kinda method to keep the word cobra in the polished look. i was guessing masking tape and using a sharp razorblade to cut around it perfectly. any writeups or help would be great.

i think they make caliper paint....check autozone....as for the masking off i would say just spray the whole thing and when its all good and dry take sand paper to the letters then clear the whole thing...might be a little easier

Go through Eastwood. They sell a kit with a chemical mix that will last forever. Clean your whole assembly with brake cleaner, brush the paint on the caliper and letters then scrape the letters with a razor. I used the brush on kit you can get from Auto Zone. Just make sure to get a wire brush and clean the calipers real good.

i went with the eastwood cause i had a few people tell me how good that stuff is. ill put some pics up when i do the brakes hopefully this thurs. thanx for all the info. sounds like i just need to clean the hell outta them before anything goes on them

Yep, as with any type of painting, the prep work makes the difference whether it looks good and lasts.

bringing this up again cause im doing it right now. do i paint the bracket too or just the caliper itself? cant seem to find pics that show painted calipers so im not sure now. im thinkin both the caliper and bracket should be painted but not 100% right now

yeah, stupid me shoulda looked on the net for for some pics. looks like everyone either left the bracket stock color or painted it black. i think i should go for black so it stands out more

On my Camaro, I painted the bracket red as well, but I don't have any good close up pics.
