HELP! trans noise

[Maniak]

lookin at buying this 94 cobra with 45000 miles. everything checks out but it makes some noise when in reverse either from the trans or the clutch. it does have an aftermarket clutch (stage 3, unknown company) with a b&m shifter, so i am guessing it is clutch chatter.

how normal is this? it didnt do it in any other gears.

hard to tell from your description. could be a number of things or just a lil clutch chatter

can only do as good as JD described it! not really worried about it though. i would just like to hear some opinions.

he said that when he was in reverse, when the clutch was engaged, there was a rattling noise coming from the transmission area.

actually it could possibly be the a cover thats on the transmittion. those can get loose. its a cover right by the clutch fork. if it sounds like a rattling that could be a possiblility :biggthump

nice!! sounds like an easy fix!

not unless you have a bad tob

it could be chatter like u said....spec clutches are known to chatter(providing its a spec clutch that is)... but all in all it doesnt sound too alarming. if i remember right the price was good and it looked in good shape when u posted the link. let us know how it turns out

could be cause its friggin cold out...i noticed while riding in Jeff's car, his DFX chattered a bit and he said cause it was cold out

Well I warmed the car up pretty well before backing it into the kids driveway :headbang:

Anyway if he gets this car, i may have to do that gear swap.

ya I agree its either a throw out bearing or hell every cobra/ mustang I have owned / driven has a tiny problem going right into reverse...putting into first gear first helps....can anyone vouch for me on this one? maybe its a t-45 thing...

actually i agree with you man, every t-45 mustang i have driven has that reverse problem i always have to go into first gear before reverse
