If you can weld, can fab up the brackets, widen/narrow it and put your ends on it might be worth your while. If you have to pay to get all that done you might be better off buying a bolt in housing (be it a 12 bolt, 9" or Dana 60) and have it built to spec.

The 8.8 is a strong rear end when built right. And I have seen them in all kinds of different vehicules. Just another way of going about things.
