how strong is the 8.8" rear?

depends, there are 7.5 and 8.5 carriers

get a dana 60 - supposed to be alot stonger than a 12 bolt and a way easier install than a 9"

There are 2 series carriers and 3 series carriers. 2 series meaning that the gears were 2.73 3 series meaning gears were 3.23 and up. all the rear ends are 7.5 inch on the last gen F-bods.

The 8.5 GM rears can be made to be plenty strong.

Determine your ultimate HP/TQ requirements and what type of tire you'll be launching on and build your rear accordingly.

well, i am picking the 8.8 for 100 bucks with a 4.10 gear in it. Thats why i'm not going with a dana or a 9 inch yet

that dana 60 also ways double as the 12 bolt.

just build up a 12 bolt, would be the easiest swap in my opinion and can be built on the cheap.

IMO....No.

If you can weld, can fab up the brackets, widen/narrow it and put your ends on it might be worth your while. If you have to pay to get all that done you might be better off buying a bolt in housing (be it a 12 bolt, 9" or Dana 60) and have it built to spec.

The 8.8 is a strong rear end when built right. And I have seen them in all kinds of different vehicules. Just another way of going about things.

8.8 rear here... best of 1.24 60ft at over 3250lbs...

now weight 3370lbs and make over 1100rwhp..
