What got you into the whole "modding" scene?

i think we've had a thread like this before but doesnt hurt to have a new one..

i think it had to have been my GTP....it was the first car i owned that could actually be made fast....after i bought my first intake i was hooked...ive kinda lost the modding bug as of late tho...i mean its still there, but i'm realizing i really enjoy driving a working car then one that is fast but has a ton of day to day problems....

Ill just post a picture.

this was my first car, well same model anyways, i had a few small blocks laying around so we dropped one in, connected the subframes, put in a 12 point cage and 4" exhaust straight out the back.

My father got me into it, he used to race alot back in the day, around here and in socal. I was born in a 70 442. Ive had muscle around me all my life. So my answer would be my Pops.

I got the SS, and that same summer a friend got an 01 Cobra and another got a 98 WS6. So obviously there was a bit of a competition there and I had to make sure I was always just a tad faster than them.

It must be nice to have money and buy factory muscle, Ive always built mine from the ground up, helps me know alot about the car and what its limitations are.

I had alota fun squeezing just a little more out of my Taurus SHO and basically making it my own. The civic was dirt slow when I got it, and I bought a new car to replace it and didn't have the heart to sell it, so I swapped it and its a blast.

I've been into cars since I was little, and it was just a matter of time after I bought my first car! Since that had zero aftermarket, it got boring coming up with new ideas. So I bought my next car that had a big aftermarket.

growing up with snowmobiles is what got me. Never had a car to mod until the GTI and then I had to get rid of it but I would still like to mod...just need a car to mod.

I still haven't really entered the modding scene yet, but there are lots of things I'd like to do, just don't have the money for it though. About 2 years ago though after I got my Grand Prix I met this guy Lee(LeeGTP on ilgpc) at a Walgreens in Naperville. I was checking out his GTP cause I thought it looked pretty sick and me and my buddy saw him walking towards it and asked if it was his. He talked to us for a good 45 minutes about all the stuff he did to his car and about Grand Prixs in general and told me about ClubGP and I've been hooked ever since.

Yeah dude he was a really nice guy when I met him. I don't think that I would be able to keep up with 2 16 year olds asking him a shit load of questions like we were haha. But I can pretty much give him credit for getting me into the whole Grand Prix scene.

to be honest, old huffies and murrays were built pretty damn strong back when we were kids. I only had a gooseneck snap on me on a 10' lip on a huffy before, then I got the hutch.

started with my old Z28, did little mods, but knew it wasnt the car i really wanted to pour the money into. so went LS1, dont regret a thing, had work done and car has had no issues for about 3 or 4 years now. so i cant complain

I guess i also started modding BMX bikes, had Dyno's, DK's, S&M's, and still have an FBM and a DK in the garage. I got this car and like Mook, realized it had some potential that could be unlocked fairly cheaply with minimal labor, and then, and then, and then....

I love cars, so I tinker... One day I hope to have a toy car, that I can break and know I still have another way to work, but for now I keep it simple and mess with the DD.
