I keep seeing all these other R/C threads. We should have a whole thread dedicated to anything/everything we do R/C.. and if not, at least post in it here and there. Maybe if we're nice to Mook, we could get a sub forum for it? :dunno:

For some reason the other night, I had the urge to get my wheely king out of my closet for the first time since July or so.. I have the crawler conversion on it and the custom 3-link suspension that comes with it honestly leaves a lot to be desired. The ball joints that screw on to each end of the 4 swing arms (8 total) are kinda shitty plastic and they like to tear threads if you hit something. You can see them in this picture at each end of the dark gray swingarms on the bottom.

Long story short, I replaced the ball joint / end assemblies last night and there's a piece that goes between each in the frame that's made of plastic. both of them stripped on me while I was reassembling it. Luckily, I was already at a hobby shop when I was throwing these parts on.. so I bought some aluminum stock to replace these.

Tonight I ended up cutting, lathing and tapping alloy replacements for more strength. Didn't think about it and went with the stock size. The new arm ends/ball joints are about 1 millimeter narrower than the stocks on either side of the ball and there was a pretty big discrepancy in the sizes, so I need to make new ones tomorrow.

Old vs. New. Looked good before I screwed it together..also decided I might as well go with a finer thread while I'm at it for more "bite" just in case.

And here's how short I ended up coming.

Need to make up quite a bit for it to even up on either side. I'm guessing about 4.5-5MM longer and I'll be good. Can't wait to get this truck going again. Contemplating getting a waterproof brushless motor/esc and waterproof reciever box setup for this bad bitch.

Because in one thread everything gets lost and there's no focus. There was one big thread but I split it off and encouraged people to make their own threads. There's not enough demand for a sub forum yet. Maybe if more people create individual threads.

i like the thread already, on xmas i got a redcat racing truck, brushless powered, got rid of the radio and just bought a spektrum radio system, gonna buy some bigger batteries, the lipo stuff scares me

my ken block car with the new tires doesnt drift no more, it just hooks up and goes looking to doing some more modding to the ken block with the new body i got different suspension, wider tires, and i would like to go brushless as well

i think it would be cool to get together and just bash, or meet at leisure hour raceway

OK pics..

The crawler.. all stock with a LiPO powering it.

Micro T its got a better motor, bearings, CF chassis, again 2s Lipo and whatever I did to it when I ran it last must have been silly because the front link is broken, an axle bent and a rear knuckle cracked.

And the RC18T updating the firmware on the ESC. Going to run it on 2S for now. I don't even remember the mods on this one but its got a bunch.

dooo it! i had a crawler king with a traxxas waterproof speed control and a water proof receiver box and i used to drive it into my pool. it would sink to the bottom and would cruise around bottom of the pool. it was so badass.

I remember that little Mini-T. Crazy fast little truck.

As for the size of the Micro-T yeah. I think about picking one of them up every once in a while but realized that I'd probably never play with it.

So, Leisure Hours Track bash day? I'll have a new toy to test out. :)

And I can bring some old ones too.

Hehe.. I got the RC18T running. I forgot how retarded fast the thing is on the 3S Lipo. Had the neighbor use my Matchbox radar gun on it. I didn't have the space to wind it out but the radar gun hit a max of 42mph before I had to hit the brakes. I have everything set to max no limiting except the motor timing is still set on the lowest.

I thought about selling all my micro and mini trucks but they just are not worth anything. I see RC18t's setup with more than mine go for $75 and Micro anything is almost worthless.

You may have forgotten, but I remember how stupid fast it was. :)

oddly enough this is the quickest motor I've ever had in a car.

would like to get a speed controller to put in my truck so I can put this 12t I have sitting in the basement that my brother gave me in.

Never been there, but I seem to remember something about it. I think they couldn't take Nitro cars due to noise concerns.

Found this picture.

Found it on youtube. Small track. Might not be good for truggies like I built, but if I had a 1/10th it would be the right size.

Interesting a track in Streamwood. I'll have to check that out. Its small but decent enough for the 1/10's and smaller. Could be fun to run the RC18t there.. Just change the gearing and use the 2s.

Drool... I think I have a new project to think of. 1/8 Serpent 966 converted to Brushless.. 116 mph using a single 6s plus there are videos of the 966e with normal gearing keeping right up with the on roads.

Man the downforce that body can generate at that speed must be insane! I bet it could drive upside down.

I agree with switching to a lower voltage setup for the track. On 6S i don't think this truggy will be very controllable. I think my truggy will spend most of its time in 3S2P, with 4S1P at the track and occasionally I'll switch the adapter out for 6S if I feel like speed runs. I drove the truggy on 3S and it had plenty of punch, as much as a nitro, but not quite the top speed. I think I'm geared too short, gonna step up to a 16t pinion and see how it goes though I ordered an 18t pinion just in case that isn't enough. With the batts in parallel I can draw some massive amperage and not fry them. I don't think a 3S will pull that many amps though.

Yeah thats is why I love the 1/8 on roads crazy down force. Plus Its not all that hard to get triple digit speeds using BL and Lipos but to do it and still turn it the sick part of it. I want. Going to look into selling a guitar or two and buying a used 1/8 on road.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZRqqyzB2j4

I'd say keep the 6s and gear it to top out at the end of the track but that would probably be a wheelie machine doing that so yeah for sure run less battery Plus the weight loss will help too.
