All fairly horrid engines...

No shit? I think he was talking about the more common 2.3 though.

Yeah they put some V6's in foxes, but it seems like the 2.3 was much more common

After the 2.3 went to fuel injection it was the only choice other than the V-8 . (84 or 85).

omg the 2.3 was a turd, except the Turbo Coupe and SVO, those are awesome especially with a DOHC Volvo head swap

Interesting info... obviously those engines were nothing to write home about. The 2.3 was stout, but 5.0 FTW.

Sorry talking about the Hatchback of the mid 80's and yes correction 4cyl vs v6. I'm at work and had a short window to type that all out. But here is my argument, why spend the extra cash on a 5.0(80's early 90's) hatchback if you know you are going to tear the motor out to rebuild everything vs just buying the 4cyl save some money because you know you are putting a built motor in there and with it you know you need to beef up the trans and rear weather it was the 5.0 or 4cyl?

Your argument still sucks...

The 5.0 mustang's had bigger diffs/rear ends, better rear gears, better brakes, bigger Radiator, a T-5 transmission with the right bell housing pattern.

If you are building an all out no compromise strip machine, then yes, I'd agree, since you'd want a bigger radiator anyways, and an even stronger rear end and transmission etc, but otherwise I would not buy a 4 cylinder notch to swap a 5.0 into.

As I said before, if it's only light mods then yes it's pointless for a swap that drastic.

I think the early 5.0 used the same 7.5" axle that the 4 banger had. Maybe... IDK. Don't quote me on that. The only benefit to a 4 cylinder chassis is that you will automatically get a 2" drop when putting in a 5.0 in because of the weaker springs. Its a good look though.

But really if you are doing a balls out car like that, why not just get a tube chassis and a body shell, and forgo the swapping thing though?

Several states limit what swaps you can do thanks to emissions or other local laws. In the case of a Notch/Fox, I would think it would be just 1000 times easier to stick with a 5.0LX/GT

We live in IL, pre 96 no emissions, that's taken care of. If you are replacing everything, motor, trans, rear end, suspensions. What would make it easier? Mounting points will be the same or you just need to get a bracket. I'd give wiring to be easier on the lx/gt vs the 4cyl but that's the only thing I could see being easier.

Then again I see it 1000 times easier to just mod your mustang and make it fast vs the r.a.n.ger(now explorer)

So for the thread derail, and I agree it is hot. When I get the time I post pics to make up for the derail.
