YouTube What could this noise be?

Yes, I need to get over to VW but just havent gotten around to it. Car drives fine, no lights, etc.

Ever since I bought the car, I've had this rotational / oscillation type noise. Its progressively gotten more noticeable the past few weeks. Upon cold start up, I dont hear it but once the engine has gotten nice and warm (especially after sitting), its there.

I would take an underhood shot but you wont notice it as much with all the other mechanical noises.

Its cleary there tho in this vid. Any thoughts or theories? I know I'm asking for what amounts to really random guesses. When the car was at Komet months back they didnt see anything glaringly wrong. My buddy things alternator...Komet things maybe something echoing around in the engine pay or a pulley or something.

alternator maybe. Hopefully not some sort of engine rotating assembly.

Really doubt its engine related. I'll try and get another vid from the engine bay after work.

Maybe I'll run over to VW in Elgin and let them listen but not touch the ecu

Damn, that sounds almost identical to the noise my Cobra was making a couple weeks ago. It turned out to be the water pump.

Can't know for sure until you stick your head under the hood and listen.

Swung past Elgin VW to ask if a tech could take 3 minutes and listen to the noise. "Oh, we're really busy right now. Our tech is in a meeting and our lube guy is busy."

Mileage wise your probably due to trade this thing in being a VW and all.

But other than that sounds pulley related. Water pump, idler, etc. def rotational

Car has been solid so far. Got a call into Schaumburg VW. I know a guy that knows a guy.

just down the street form me. if the test drive it they will blast down the road my work is on. if i know what time they will have it, i can get a good fly by shot of it for you.
