Toyota Highlander can be achieved:

You could even get into a 13 RX:

Xterras:

I think you have pretty much every option out there. I'd avoid the Escape... you just won't fit in the damn things, despite them being pretty nice vehicles.

i really like the highlander's, the other half says too mini-van-esque looking... ugh.

xterras probably leave some fuel economy to be desired id assume?

What are her feelings on the Clubmans?

We paid just under 30 for ours brand new (down from a $35 sticker), and its a fairly loaded ALL4 S model (So AWD, and the 2.0 turbo).

Gets 25 mixed driving, 35 highway (real world), which has been surprising given the AWD.

Back seats are sizable enough to fit humans behind me while driving, good cargo in the back.

Technically its a BMW X1 under the skin, build quality has been fantastic, and it rides excellently.

We just finished a 1600 mile road trip with it, so I'd say its quite comfortable, doesn't feel cramped despite the 'mini' stigma.
