Buy a 2015 Hyundai Genesis in 2018?
I am flirting with the idea of buying a 2015 Hyundai Genesis when 2018 hits. The car reviews on this model are glowing with nobody I have seen saying much of anything bad about the car other than "It's a Hyundai and doesn't have the wow factor of buying a German/Japanese luxury car".
In 2018, Hyundai (cough, cough,) Genesis is going to release a new model of the "Genesis" which, since 2017, is called the Genesis G 80. The prices for used, 2nd generation, Genesi have already dropped from a new price of $40K-$50K+ into the mid/high $20K range for low mileage cars. You can get a 3.8 for mid $20s while the 5.0 Ultimate version is just over $30K. Next year, when Genesis releases the updated version of the G 80, Genesis owners are going to be even more likely to dump their 1-3 y.o. cars to upgrade to the new model. With more Genesi hitting the used car market, I expect prices to drop even more, especially the "Hyundai" 2015/2016s.
So, if the 5.0, 420 hp Ultimate version dips into the $20s, it will be a bargain to find a low mileage, adult owned car that listed over $50K when purchased.
Even more enticing, the 2015-2017 versions are essentially the same car, with very minor changes, even though the 2017s are badged as Genesis G 80s and not Hyundai Genesis. Why not buy the Genesis wing badge, pull off the "H" on the trunk and slap it on? Slap on a G 80 badge where the Genesis badge was and, bam, you have a car that looks like it's a 2017 model. For less than half the price of a new 2017/2018.
