Default German Car Mechanic Recommendation

Can anyone recommend a legit mechanic that specializes in Import/German/Mercedes?

Preferably in the NW suburbs, Gold Coast, or Hyde Park areas if possible.

Appreciate any input!

Lol...I wish. My old man has a 2012 S550. Was in the dealer for an oil change and they quoted him over $7k for a bunch of crap (brakes, belt, coolant flush, power steering flush, etc.) that they said he should do...he called me up and I said walk out immediately. A lot of it sounded like legit stuff, but prices were insane. He wants to take it to a legit mechanic to get a second opinion, and if its still that expensive he said he'll just trade it in...lol.

Any good mechanic can do brakes, coolant, etc.

How many miles are on the car? My Infiniti service advisor is always trying to push. For example, last time I was in he said I needed a brake flush and it was roughly $300. I laughed and said that the tech didn't even look at the fluid as I just did a flush myself no more than 5K miles ago.

I have the same experience at my Infiniti dealer.

Has around 60k miles, and I don't think he's ever done any of that crap so I'm sure it is due. Apparently needs a new strut and centrifuge cover, which is why I figured a Mercedes specialist would be best.

Rear Diff fluid is the newest one for me... Best part is, Infiniti doesn't have an interval it needs to be changed... They seem to have an interval for everything else. Also hit me up on the power steering fluid!

convinced?

it ACTUALLY is what they do.

part of the reason I left the dealer life.. too many customers mad at ME because i suggested it to them when they already had it done elsewhere... (im not a tech but i am expected to trust them....)

It was; needed a new air strut, new centrifuge cover, all new pads and rotors, new brake pad sensors (didn't even know those existed!), new serpentine belt, coolant fluid flushed/replaced, power steering fluid flushed/replaced, fuel injection system cleaning.

He said fuck it and traded it for a new S550...LOL!

That's what I said when my old man called me...LOL. I said WTF is a centrifuge cover?!?!

Sure enough I googled it and it's a relatively common part that leaks oil in Mercedes engines. Still have no idea what the hell it does.

It appears to be some sort of oil seperator. Not sure if it is a fancy name for a PCV system or what.

I did get nervous when he started talking about centrifuges!

In all seriousness...why the hell do German cars over engineer something like a PCV system into a "centrifuge" system?!?!

Infinitech Auto Service in the Bucktown area.

Home Page - INFINITECH AUTO SERVICE

This is where I used to work. Mostly did Merc, Audi, BMW, Porsche & Infinity. We did a LOOOOOTTT of S550s as its attached to Greater Chicago Motors and all those cars would come from auction needing work/maintenance before they were sold.
