Whens winter tire time?

Picked up a set of winter tires over the summer on a spare set of rims. Now that its starting to get a little colder, I'm getting anxious to throw them on and see what the hype is about. When do you guys usually throw them on? I'm only home from school the week of thanksgiving and then week before Christmas so I was thinking next week. Thoughts?

I've got the performance winters, so they'll do a little better than a studless ice/snow in warmer temps.

I'm probably switching today, as the weather seems decent enough.

I usually wait till end of November but weather is real fickle here. Nearly 80* today and supposed to be cold with potential of snow tomorrow but then back in to the 60's.


If you're running all seasons I'd wait a few weeks. If you're running a summer tire I'd swap as soon as overnight temps are consistently in the 40's and lower.

ya i read even the all seasons start to give up quite a bit of traction under 40-45, I'm sure all depends on specific tire and specs.

this is true. I'm still on my summer setup and putting the stock wheels and all seasons back on Saturday. I left a red light on Randall hard to merge last Friday night when it was below 40 and spun all the way through first.
