The ISG is part of a 48 volt system, which drives an electric water pump, an electric AC compressor, and an electric auxiliary compressor that Mercedes calls an eZV. This means there’s no belt-driven accessory drive, reducing overall engine length—a godsend for an inherently long engine like an inline-six.

Makes me wonder why ALL engines aren't doing this!

Absolutely brilliant. About time someones done something like this. From what I've gathered the motor/generator (or ISG as they refer to it) sits right in between the motor and trans. The losses in a 48V system are 4x less than those of a 12v system and the motors to drive the accessories and supercharger can be smaller. Among other things the ISG prolly doubles in function as the engines flywheel too.

Isn't this the about the normal power levels for turbo 6 cylinders now-a-days?

I think there are a few out there. BMW has the Alpina version of the N55 3.0TT that makes 404/440. The S55 in the newer M3/M4 makes 425tq (5505-7300 rpm) and 410 ft/lbs (1850-5500 rpm). The S55 is a twin turbo engine. I am sure the Mercedes engine is a lot more innovative and probably expensive. lol

"Mercedes says the eZV accelerates to 70,000 RPM within 0.3 seconds" I wonder if that is free wheeling or up to a head of pressure. Full boost in under a half of a second would be insane. Almost no lag at all.

Yeah...instant full boost from a turbo would be insane for sure. Ford Raptor, Lincoln MKZ, Lincoln Continental, and Cadillac CTS are a few more offering 400+ horsepower out of V6's....
