01 still had aluminum 317 heads. After 06 I think they have 58 tooth reluctors. Vans kept 24 teeth longer, unsure of years.

'03 starred dbw. The 6.0 started in '00 I believe and up through 02 was dbc. Buy the 00-01 had a longer crank and cast heads. The longer crank sucks because it limits you to ONLY a 4l80e. The 02+ had a spacer that can be removed.

04-06 were gen III LQ4 motors came with the beefier rods and pistons. If the motor still has the exhaust manifolds on them check to see if the bolts are 13mm. 10mm = 03 - older lq4 and 13mm - 04-06

Yes, sorry should have said that clearer. If the heads of the bolts on the exhaust manifold bolts is 13mm then it's got the better rods and Pistons. I think the same can be said for the front cover bolts as well but don't quote me on that. Bring an 13mm socket. If it matches l, you're golden

So they went from 8mm threads to 10mm? I would've never thought the bigger motors would've gotten 8mm bolts. Seems small
