I loved my Excursion. The power train is solid. As others have said, they chew through front suspension components and that gets really expensive really quick so if you see one that's had front end work done make sure you don't write that work off. I think it was a few thousand in front end work mine had.

You won't get over 10mpg. Accept it; embrace it. My Excursion taught me to drive like an old man and basically idle off the line and still: 10mpg.

If you get one keep in mind that for very little money you can put the 2005+ headlights and grill on it and it will look 200% better.

For the snow it's stupid fun to drive. I used to go into parking lots that had been plowed and charge into the 5 foot tall snow drifts. In hindsight, I'm glad I didn't get an airbag in the face.
