Be honest, how terrible does this look? I've got paint checking and flaking off on my roof rails which is peculiar because the rest of the car's paint is gravy but whatever. I noticed under the flaking paint that it's aluminum so before throwing down $500 at a body soip to have them removed and painted I figured I'd give this a crack.
This is what I started with:
And this is where I'm at so far. My plan is just to completely strip and sand them so they look like this on the entire rail.
The only reason I'm thinking this looks ok is because it's a near perfect match to the actual aluminum trim on the car. For comparison, here's what I've done to the roof rails compared to the aluminum window trim which is stock.
What does TCG say? Should I stop wasting my time and get them painted or should I finish them this way?
