Did Fast 'N Loud Make This Up?

What would you call the stories Fast ‘n Loud made up about those two “Barn Find” Firebirds? Fibs? Lies? BS? Or Something Else?

HOT ROD likes to take people at their word. Last week we posted a story about Fast 'N Loud finding the first two Firebird prototypes in a barn. See it HERE. The hot rod community is like a tribe, and you don’t jive your brother, right? So we are more than a little peeved that the hype the cable show Fast ‘N Loud fed everyone about the two “barn find” #1 and #2 ’67 Firebirds was not, shall we say, correct information. The problem comes from the show identifying things related to the two cars that could have only come from them, once you get the whole enchilada. So here’s what we really know about the two Firebirds:

1) The two cars weren't 'found in a barn' as the shows producers state, they have been stored.

2) They weren't prototypes or pilot cars, they were just the first two cars down the line, unlike what the producers state.

3) They weren't built in order to decide whether Pontiac wanted to build the Firebird, as the producers state. They are production line cars.

4) They aren't "worth" $325K as the producers state, they sold for $30K a couple years ago, that's probably close to their current value.

5) They're basic, bread and butter Birds, nothing unique about them except their VIN. No rare one-off parts, no super-rare Ram Air stuff, no hard to find trans or rear axle. Just a ’67 Firebird ragtop and hardtop, and a very expensive VIN and trim tag.

6) They were sold as a pair for $30K a couple years ago on E-Bay. The new owner was contacted by Fast N' Loud, and they decided to publicize the cars around their rather sensationalist blatherings.

If anyone from the show would like to contact HOT ROD to correct us or otherwise set the record straight, we will be more than happy to communicate your responses. As for now, it would seem that the show has lost what little cred they may have had up to this time, sorry to say. At least from HOT ROD’s perspective, we are disappointed that one of the public faces for the rewards of modifying cars would stoop this low just to hype a build that done legit would have been an honest portrayal of the joy and pride we all take in building our cars.

there is more bad blood between HRM & F & L than just this I'd bet... especially for them to call them out like this.

as I said on facebook... I love HRM calling them out- but it definitely seems like there is more bad blood between them than just what they are publishing... I've never been a fan of them or their show... ever since the biker build off where Jesse James butted heads with them... jesse james has more skill and creativity in his pinky than these guys do in everything they do.

I don't care what HRM thinks... still going to watch FnL because they build some cool shit!

...and IMO vin# 1 and 2 could be worth a shit load of money... we've all seen how stupid prices can be when they are ran a Barret Jackson and what not with stupid shit like vin# sequencing, first production model, etc...

but there's nothing special about them.. if they were t/a's or had special parts or something- they could be special.

Good for Hot Rod.

I won't watch the new episodes of F&L. It's clearly fake and the stuff they build isn't even that creative or innovative. Cool, yeah, but not worthy of a TV show. Most of what's portrayed on the show seems hacked together.

I agree it's fake/over dramatized but what "reality show" isn't... Even Fuck dynasty is fake too! And what other car show is there to watch?

Meh... I've seen a couple of them and was not impressed

I hear ya about the lack of quality car shows on TV. Racing is scattered too. The review shows are obviously for entertainment or basically commercials for whatever car they're "reviewing." I miss the old TNN lineup of Sunday car shows. Informative, project-based shows with a good balance of build, fabrication and test. I can't stand these shows that spend an entire half hour welding a bracket to a frame. I want closure damn it!

so true.

another "car" channel needs to emerge soon, the content is there... but it is sooooo scattered- fox, discovery, velocity, cnbc, nbcsn, esquire, spike etc etc.

i watched some of the "car chasers" on cnbc last night... who even knew there was a tv show on cnbc?! it's an alright show...

the only two shows i can say i really enjoy is xtreme 4x4- cuz the dude is a genius and nuts with the stuff he does. and I enjoy some of stacey david's stuff...

I will hug you the next time I see you! I totally agree with bringing back the the old TNN style lineup

FnL is entertaining to me and I like what they do with most of the cars... I understand if people don't like it... that's fine too
