So you ave 30k burning a hole in your pocket. You can go out and buy a new Ford Taurus or you can go out and buy a used something awesome. What's your pick? It needs to be formerly baller, exotic, over-the-top luxurious or previously unattainable. If you post a Mustang or Camaro you're doing it wrong.

I've always had a soft spot for the Maseratti Quattroporte. Ferrari engine, amazing interior craftsmanship, semi-automatic transmission and dat body.

Then there's the D3 A8 W12. Timeless looks, buttery smooth horsepower, an interior that's still on par with even the best new offerings, air suspension and enough rear leg room to stretch your feet, even if you're a lurch. Forget the Ford Explorer. Buy an A8 and toss some car seats in the back. Forego the W12 option and great examples can be had for under $20,000.

Maybe you don't care about the kids... Maybe you just want to drive your cat around in the most ostentatious way possible. Maybe you have money burning a hole in your pocket and want to spend it on tires every 6 months. Maybe the of a huge V10 engine stuffed into a light car with no traction control is your thing. The Dodge Viper GTS is your car. Over 30 examples available for under 30k.

Give me your best used, baller, exotic, luxury, previously unattainable finds for under 30k.

2004 Volkswagen Phaeton, $17,990 - Cars.com

Fuck why pay extra for the Audi name when you can get a Phaeton for $10K less and have the same motor and chassis

Because the A8 is 600lbs lighter which makes the V8 A8 faster than the W12 Phaeton and which makes it handle better too. The tech on the A8 is lightyears newer than the Phaeton, the interior is nicer and the list goes on. I had a huge boner for the Phaeton a few years back which is what lead me to the A8. After having driven them both, the A8 is just loads better and no more expensive now. A 2004 A8 with reasonable miles is a $13,000 - $14,000 car. I was only asking $14,500.

I do love the way the Phaeton looks though and the attention to detail on that car is silly.

Phaeton is definitely not exotic or awesome  I used to think they were pretty cool, but certain aspects of that car look horribly dated now.

~03ish BMW 760Li.
Relatively under-powered V12, top notch interior (for the time) with an insane amount of gadgets and functions.

I don't know, I think the Phaeton is a good pick. Your choices don't need to be exotic. I'm just thinking of cars that were once really expensive, really out of reach, really cool or really luxurious that are now under 30k and don't look completely out-dated. For instance, you can roll around in a 2005 A8 W12 for 26k and it looks identical to a 2010 model. That's ball'n on a budget!

REAL COCOA PUFFS! amirite? :drums:
