Alright so I'm replacing a broken timing chain and had to remove the oil pan to get the broken pieces out on a saturn 1.9l sohc engine and I had one question before I put it back together.

Would you put the timing chain cover on first then the oil pan? Or oil pan first then the timing cover?

I would think its the timing cover then the pan but I want to make sure

Thanks!

Probably cover, then pan. If the pan has to seal up against the bottom of the cover at all, DEFINITELY the cover first. I made this mistake after rebuilding my 3.1. I just happened to put the pan on first, and thought I could squeeze the cover back on. Well, I got it on, but in the process I rolled the oil pan gasket where it meets the cover and lost all the oil and didn't notice until it was too late.
