A non union 9 year old from China. So it will be bashed in by a union worker and a fee charged for using it.

All the flag ladies I see look like an old catchers mitt that someone left out in the sun for a few years. Money is good but not looking like you're made of leather is good too.

We were once convention city, now they are off to places more affordable. Union electrician to plug in an extension cord? Union labor to move your boxes out of your car onto the floor? I understand the union wants the work, but people have options and don't want to pay for that shit.

Congrats! I have a friend who's a police officer in DC and he loves it. They also don't have quotas though.

I think the dealerships are playing this smart. They can go longer without the money than the techs. How long can some of these techs bring home $500/week? Is the strike pay taxed?

Was at Elgin Dodge yesterday bullshitting with one of the sales managers. He claims that 2 techs at Elgin Toyota have already crossed the picket line and he has "heard" a few of the techs at Elgin Dodge were planning on crossing this week if no progress was made this weekend.

How long can a dealership go without people going thru the doors?

Our store is one of the busiest shops in the Chicagoland area and I've never seen it this deserted in the 15 years I've been here.

We all want to go back to work and I believe the outcome of the vote would have been different if they didn't add a last second threat to the contract.

I'll bet once a good percent of the people get a dose of smaller shops they won't be coming back.

Who do you think has more cash to wait this out? The millionaire dealership owner, or the guy now bringing home less than $500/week?

The service department brings in much more money than the sales department I assure you. The dealerships are hurting as bad but why would they both cut off their noses to spite their faces? Let them stay at the bargaining table because all it means is a bigger retro check when it's finalized. The techs have families who I'm sure are hurting financially as a result. Nothing good comes from strikes. They know before it gets to this what they want to offer but they like to see how long they can push the members to get there and possibly give less.

I wish the techs luck and strength to get a fair contract. You're in it now so hold off until you get the best you can.

I want to believe our owner is a good guy. He has let us in the building to use the bathroom, use the grill for cooking, and given us room to set up a tent.

But it's hard to hear it from the dealer committee that they can't afford to pay us more when labor rates are going thru the roof, non warranty labor times getting cut, and taking advantage of the apprentices, semi skilled and lube techs.

I totally dig the new Ferrari our owner was driving when he left in a hurry after the vote Saturday

Retro check???
I'm might be mistaking as I'm sure shit has changed since I was on strike last. But I don't believe there is a retro check from a strike.

I thought the used car side was the big money maker for the dealers these days?

First 2 weeks is 300 for journeyman, 200 for apprentices and 150 for semi and lube techs.

3rd week gets bumped an extra 150 for everyone.

This is why he can wait longer. Techs can't pay their bills, he might have to downgrade to a lesser Ferrari.
