Why Is Porsche Testing the 918 Spyder at the Nurburgring Again?

A Porsche spokesperson confirmed to Road & Track that this car is being used by Porsche as a reference point during testing at the 'Ring. Unfortunately, we're not sure what car Porsche is benchmarking the 918 against. The 680-hp Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid seems like a likely candidate, since it uses a similar hybrid engine concept as the 918.

It's also worth noting that Porsche has recently tested the upcoming 911 GT3 RS and GT2 at the Nurburgring, though neither of those will be hybrids. Porsche is also considering a plug-in hybrid drivetrain for the next-generation 992-chassis 911, which is due in non-hybrid form for the 2019 model year.

Sounds so good.
