Modern cars freaking out in car washes

I found this amusing. Seems odd to me that no engineer somewhere had thought about an over ride on accident avoidance, brake preloading, autonomous driving, etc from freaking out in very common occurrences like a car wash.

Happens all the time at work. Never had a vehicle shut down on me, but those systems go crazy and beep and warn you as soon as the brushes come out.

I think newer MB and BMWs have a "car wash mode" which disables the nanny systems.

yea had lots of warnings go off as I take vehicles through the wash at work. Also a pain in the ass some of the Jeeps shift to park if you dont close the door when moving them.

Instructions can be even more labyrinthine. In the 7 Series, for example, BMW has a subhead in the manual entitled “Before driving into a car wash” on page 73. That section jumps numbered instructions to page 242, but by the time you hit instruction #3, you’re instructed to flip back to page 77 to deactivate Automatic Hold braking, and then back to 242 for the remaining two steps
