because designing motors for a single brand is way cheaper then for a whole company.

that's true only because the people that buy those cars are paying to provide gm with r&d on high feature engines. the features that were great are kept others are reengineered and used in the next higher feature engine for the luxury segment. while other technologies trickle-down that are most beneficial to the company's overall CAFE rating and there's probably gunna be a large portion of bean counting for the bottom line.

Most manufacturers are moving to this. Tbh on a turbo motor it matters a lot less unless you are going for max power unless they are really restrictive. Nice thing is short path to the turbo so keeps the heat up.

aluminum heads means you could modify the head/manifold.

realistically you can just up the drive pressure and still make incredible numbers.

i just hope that when they "changed the bore centerlines" this is a precursor to bringing back the 3.8 displacement

Irregardless, I'm sure that 95% of people who will purchase these motors will not be worried about upgrading their headers.

Great another over engineered DOHC pile of shit from GM. I bet in 40k mi. it will need the top end taken apart for walnut shell blasting or cleaning for the carbon build-up problems that 99% of these Direct Injection motors have. I believe its Lexus that has dual injection (port inj. and direct inj.) so you get the additives and detergents in the fuel "washing" the intake ports and valves to help prevent carbon build-up.

but if they keep using pushrod motors then luxury car buyers are going to keep seeing Cadillac as low-tech, GM parts bin junk and not on par with the over-engineered German competition.

lets not forget the 4100 as well as the sweet "4,6,8" caddy's

they did learn alot from the 4100 as to how to design and cast an aluminum v8....just not enough as it would seem with the N*

The idea was there it was just poorly executed on gm's part....The 4100's had head gasket issues due to iron head aluminum block (which seems backwards to me) and the blocks were porous just like the N*...imo the only "decent" caddys in the 80's had a 307 or 350 and those were underpowered oil puffing slugs.

Looking forward to learning more about their liquid intercooled twin-turbo setup. Sounds like by eliminating much of the piping for a traditional front-mount air-to-air setup they've decreased lag.
