I have one possible explanation for the "death".

The dead animal had some type of illness and was very sick, so it went underneath that porch for a home/protection. Then it finally ended up dieing underneath that porch. Then its mate made that its temporary home their because it didnt know what to do. Later the family hears noise is walking outside, they hear the live creature moving around. The live one runs off, but they see the dead one...and think its alive. They shoot it and hit it in the eye. Well its been dead for a while so no blood comes out. The girl is driving to her moms and sees the live mate running away from the gun shots. The girl checks the creature out, since its been dead for a while the skin has dried out and started rotting. The ear pops off because of this, and again no blood because its been dead. The nails dont look worn because the creature hasnt been moving for a while, because its dead. But your nails keep growing after your dead.

Ok case solved, now who wants Chupacabra-burgers?

But....

He said it just fell over. It was under the house, laying down. They would shine the light under there because it was dark under the house. It would raise its head up and look at the light and then it would lay its head back down. So he tried three or four times to get its attention and it would only raise its head. They were wary about going under the house to get it because when they looked at it, at first they thought it was a calf because its ears were so big. And then they realized it was not and they knew it was in bad shape whatever it was, so he got his 22-rifle and shot it. When he shot it, its head just laid down and died.

The thing was still alive when they found it. It was obviously near death, but not dead. And it would take a considereable amount of time for the nails to have healed back to "perfect", as the daughter called them. The thing definitely hadn't been dead long enough to have no blood, or have skin so briddle and weak. Something is very odd, here, and defies most biological principals for such a case. As for what it is, maybe a cross bread between 2 animals?

Ooooor....

Maybe some species from Area 51 have escaped!

Oh geez...i must have entirely missed that paragraph....im retarded.

But some of my stuff still makes sense.

The animal was obviously very sick....it may have had a deteriation (sp) disease. I bet it hadnt walked for weeks, thats why the nails were perfect.

Also, if the disease was bad enough, it may not have been making "new" blood, and therefore was already barely getting blood anywhere. Then it wouldnt leak out.

/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\....this is just a thought and has no medical backing...at all :D
